Culligan Reveals Larger-Than-Life Fire Hydrants as Part of Artistic Tribute

Great Chicago Fire Hydrants - Culligan Entry

Keep your eyes peeled, Chicagoans!

Two Culligan-sponsored, larger-than-life decorative fire hydrants have joined dozens of others in a city-wide artistic tribute to Chicago’s firefighters unveiled today.

The Great Chicago Fire Hydrants features 101 5-foot tall fiberglass fire hydrants spread throughout the city sponsored by Culligan and other local businesses. We’re the proud sponsors of two of the unique fiberglass hydrants.

You’ve got plenty of time to check them out. They’ll all be on exhibit for two months in front of Chicago Engine houses, in local parks, in front of private businesses and at local tourist attractions. The best part? When the public exhibition ends, the hydrants will be auctioned in support of support of the 100 Club of Chicago, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the families of fallen police and firefighters.

What a great way to give back to our heroes!

The two Culligan hydrants were designed and painted by Chicago artist Betty Sitbon. One of the ornamental hydrants will be stationed in front of CFD Engine Company 98 at 202 E. Chicago Ave., while the second Culligan hydrant will stand post downtown in the Michigan Plaza at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Lake Street. The hydrants were unveiled at a ceremony today at Engine Company 98. The ceremony also included an official bell ringing and salute in memory of when the first plane hit the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

“As a Chicagoland company and family, Culligan and its dealers are extremely proud to be a part of The Great Chicago Fire Hydrants exhibition and project,” said Marty Armstrong, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Culligan International. “It’s always important to remember and support those in our community that dedicate their lives to keeping the rest of us safe.”
