Commercial water treatment FAQs
What is commercial and industrial water treatment?
Commercial and industrial water treatment helps provide your business with higher-quality water so your team and your equipment can perform optimally. Treatment can include a range of products and services — like water filtration, reverse osmosis, softening and much more. In some cases, you may need more than one service or product, which is why Culligan offers custom commercial or industrial water treatment solutions to fit the needs of your business.
How do I choose the right company for commercial or industrial water treatment?
Do you have the capability to remotely monitor and manage our systems?
Yes. With our optional Insight dashboard service, our experts can wirelessly connect to your systems via cellular, ethernet or Wi-Fi and perform proactive maintenance, quickly troubleshoot issues and minimize downtime.
What are commercial and industrial water filtration systems and how do they work?
Culligan commercial and industrial water filtration systems use innovative technology to reduce particulate contaminants that can affect equipment efficiency. With higher-quality water, you can benefit from reduced maintenance and increased equipment life. Culligan systems use a variety of filtration media. Typically, water filtration works in one of two ways – physical filtration and adsorptive filtration. With physical filtration, water passes through a media bed to reduce larger particulates. With adsorptive filtration, water passes through a media bed, which absorbs unwanted contaminants such as chlorine and organics.
What are commercial and industrial reverse osmosis systems and how do they work?
With commercial and industrial reverse osmosis systems, water flows across a semipermeable membrane that separates the water from contaminants as small as a single atom. Some of these contaminants include silica, hardness, sodium, lead, mercury and chromium, among many others — all of which can affect taste and scale equipment. Typically, the reverse osmosis process is combined with additional equipment, including sediment filters, carbon filtration, softening or other specialty pretreatment stages. By providing your business with higher-quality water, you can keep operating and maintenance costs low.
What are commercial and industrial water softener systems and how do they work?
Culligan commercial and industrial water softener systems reduce hardness in water, which can cause mineral buildup on equipment and increase maintenance and energy costs. Water softening systems are filled with negatively charged cation resin beads. Hard water is caused by high amounts of calcium and magnesium, which are both positively charged molecules. As hard water flows through a water softener, the calcium and magnesium are attracted to the resin beads and reduced from your water via ion exchange.
Why do I need a commercial or industrial water softener?
There are many reasons why your business may benefit from a commercial or industrial water softener depending on the industry you’re in. If your business uses a boiler, a water softener can minimize scaling and downtime. Water softening also maximizes your energy efficiency and increases the life of the asset. Some boilers may even require a water softener to maintain a warranty. In restaurant and hotel industries, a commercial water softener can provide a spot-free experience on showers and dishes while also increasing the lifespan of equipment and linens.
What are commercial and industrial water storage tanks and how do they work?
Water storage tanks hold large capacities of reverse osmosis water or other treated water for high-demand industries. Culligan offers a variety of sizes, material options and tank configurations to fit your business needs.
What common water contaminants do commercial and industrial water treatment systems address?
Commercial and industrial water treatment can address a variety of contaminants. Some of these include particulates, hard water minerals (calcium and magnesium), iron, total dissolved solids, arsenic, nitrates, iron, sulfur and PFAS compounds.
What are “forever chemicals” such as PFAS/PFOS/PFOA?
Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of approximately 30 man-made chemicals that include Perfluorooctane Sulfonate (PFOS) and Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA). These elements have a negative effect on the health of those exposed to them. Culligan offers various commercial and industrial water treatment solutions to reduce these contaminants from your water supply.*
What is commercial portable exchange water deionization and why would my business need it?
Portable exchange water deionization (PEDI), sometimes known as service exchange deionization (SDI), delivers a constant supply of quality deionized water to operations large and small, without a capital investment. Regeneration or exchange is provided by a Culligan expert, making it a suitable solution for those in discharge-restricted areas. This system reduces on-site labor and regenerant chemical handling.
