A Moment in History About Drinking Water

In 1988, former President Ronald Regan declared the first week in May National Drinking Water Week, calling upon the United States and government officials to observe the time with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities to enhance public awareness about drinking water.

Epidemi cs of waterborne disease were once a major threat to public health, but after decades of regulation, engineering, and modern advancements, the U.S. has some of the safest drinking water in the world. However, that doesn’t mean drinking water across our nation is free of contaminants that could potentially pose a risk to the public’s health.

May Is National Drinking Water Month

Of course the most recent example of water affecting public health has been the water crisis in Flint, where the community’s water was found to contain high levels of lead.

This is, in part, why what began as a weeklong celebration has since evolved into a national, month-long celebration of the value of something we use – and often take for granted – every day. Culligan celebrates May as National Drinking Water Month as part of our commitment to educate the public about the importance of clean and safe drinking water, and to raise awareness and environmental impact.

At Culligan, we believe in supporting the health of the environment, as well as our communities, with eco-friendly solutions and clean drinking water.

Everyone can benefit from filtered drinking water – whether your water is supplied by a local municipality or a private well. Enjoy a constant supply of clean, safe drinking water that’s less expensive, and less harmful to the environment, than the single-bottle alternative. Contact your local Culligan Man today to find out how you can have clean, safe drinking water in your home.
